1 Killed, 1 Arrested after DUI Accident near Clifton Court

BYRON, CA (July 18, 2023) – Saturday night, one passenger was killed and a driver was arrested after a DUI collision on Byron Highway. Police responded to the scene around 11:05 p.m., on the southbound lanes of the freeway just south of Clifton Court. For DUI related reasons, the driver of a Chevrolet Suburban veered off the road and traveled down an embankment. Medical crews arrived and pronounced the Chevrolet passenger dead at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics took the driver to a nearby hospital with significant injuries. Following preliminary duties, officers determined that the driver was intoxicated at the time. As a result, police arrested the driver at the hospital for driving under the influence. At this time, authorities have not released the identity of the deceased passenger. The CHP Contra Costa officials are asking anyone who witnessed the Byron Highway DUI crash to contact them at 925-646-4980.
