Male Pedestrian Pronounced Dead after Fatal Crash near Cherokee Road

AUGUST, CA (May 23, 2024) – One man died early Friday morning in a big-rig vs pedestrian crash on southbound Highway 99.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:46 p.m., near Cherokee Road.

Officers say the unidentified driver of a 2015 Peterbilt semi-truck towing a trailer struck a pedestrian who was walking in the area at the time. After the collision, the semi-truck driver pulled over and fully cooperated with the investigation.

Emergency personnel who responded to the scene pronounced the male pedestrian dead. Authorities have not yet released his name or place of residence.

The No. 3 and 4 lanes of the freeway were shut down while crews cleared the scene.

Preliminary investigations determined that the driver was not under the influence. Officers are continuing to investigate the fatal pedestrian crash on Cherokee Road. More details will be provided as they become available.
