Three Dead after Two Fire-Fighting Helicopters Collided in Mid-Air

CABAZON, CA (August 8, 2023) – Sunday afternoon, a helicopter crash claimed the lives of Josh Bischof, Tim Rodriguez, and Tony Sousa.

The crash occurred on August 6th, just before 7:00 p.m., in mid-air and the wreckage landed near the intersection of Main Street and Broadway Street.

According to reports, six aircraft were in the area fighting a structure and vegetation fire. While in the air, two of those helicopters, a Sikorsky S-64E and a Bell 407 collided.

The Sikorsky S-64E was able to safely land nearby, but the Bell 407 crashed with three occupants inside.

Officials declared all three occupants dead at the scene. The victims were identified as 46-year-old Josh Bischof; 44-year-old Tim Rodriguez; and 55-year-old Tony Sousa.

Following the crash, the flags at the State Capitol were flown at half-mast in their honor.
