Chefs Jason Fullilove and Sammy Monsour are teaming up at Joyce for Black History Month, as part of the sustainable seafood restaurant’s ongoing guest chef series, with a special menu throughout dinner service on Saturday, Feb. 17, from 5 p.m. until close, while supplies last. 

They will collaborate on a dish together that features locally sourced, sustainably farmed prawns from Downey-based  TransparentSea, to highlight sustainable US. aquaculture, while calling on Congress to allow for larger-scale sustainable aquaculture production in offshore federal waters, with strong science-based regulation and social equity. Here’s the menu:

Monsour’s position with the Environmental Defense Fund for the past two and a half years has been as a consultant and chef lead for the Coalition of Sustainable Aquaculture (CSA). Both chefs are founding members of the CSA alongside policymakers, scientists, marine biologists and thought leaders to promote more sustainable food sources.

Dining is getting increasingly expensive, so on Sunday, Feb. 18, Citizen Public Market will launch Sunday Social, a market-wide offer featuring specially priced and BOGO food and drinks from all vendors from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. From half-off Gary’s Wood-Fired Pizza, and special menu items including ceviche, uni and crudo from The Jolly Oyster, to free fries with every fried chicken entree order at Go Go Bird and the $9 Sunday Spritz at rooftop Bar Bohemien, and more, there’s something for everyone to afford. The Jolly Oyster will take 50% off its purple Peruvian scallop crudo, winter salad with roasted squash, scallop ceviche, Santa Barbara Uni (40g tray) and other menu items. The WeHo Sausage and The Press have a buy one beer get one for 5 cents. Available for dine-in only from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., on Sundays.

Santa Monica Place will ring in the Year of the Dragon with its free Lunar New Year Celebration on Saturday, Feb. 17, hosted by comedian Paul “PK” Kim. There will be traditional Chinese lion dance performances, balloon and dough artists, and cherry blossom Wishing Trees where well-wishers will hang their hopes for prosperity and renewal in the new year. Overhead red and gold lanterns will illuminate Center Plaza, and red envelopes with special deals from participating shops and restaurants including Nordstrom, Elie Tahari, BOSS, Coach, Pandora and more will be provided to those in attendance. Wishing Trees, overhead lanterns and limited-time red envelope offers are available now through Feb. 21.

The Japan Food Product Overseas Promotion Center is bringing seafood and sake pairings to Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo’s Son of a Gun restaurant through Thursday, Feb. 29, including Hawaiian amberjack (tosa soy, pear, shiso) paired with Jewel Brocade, by Dewazakura, Junmai Ginjo. 

Caroline Styne and Chef Suzanne Goin will host a special evening at A.O.C. on Wednesday, Feb. 28, featuring James Beard Foundation award-winner Bobby Stuckey of Boulder’s Frasca Food & Wine and Scarpetta Wines. Stuckey will serve as guest sommelier, showcasing the imported wines of Murva and his own Scarpetta Wines. Styne has curated wine flights to be enjoyed during dinner, and guests also can choose from featured bottles from Murva or the Scarpetta wine library. Additionally, A.O.C. will offer a selection of Italian cheeses for wine pairings. The menu will be à la carte, and reservations are encouraged.

Hermosa Beach Smashburger spot Proudly Serving is teaming up with another South Bay favorite, Tommy & Atticus for a tasty collaboration on Sunday, Feb. 18. Proudly Serving will be selling a weekend-only brunch burger using a Tommy & Atticus butter croissant as well as its off-menu PS Melt made with  Tommy & Atticus’ cheddar-jalapeno loaf.
