34-Year-Old Pregnant Woman Pronounced Dead after Two-Vehicle Crash near Adams Road

COTTONWOOD, CA (May 22, 2024)Ashley Slavens was killed and Joshua Gay was hurt early Monday morning, in a head-on crash on Bowman and Adams Road.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:40 a.m., on May 14th.

Investigators report that Slavens was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox westbound on Bowman Road. Officers say Slavens crossed the double-yellow lines into the eastbound lanes, where the Chevy collided head-on with an oncoming 2018 Ford F-150 driven by Gay.

The impact trapped both drivers inside their vehicles. Emergency crews extricated both victims upon arrival. Medics quickly transported both victims to Mercy Medical Center in Redding.

Officers later pronounced 34-year-old Slavens, who was pregnant at the time, and her fetus dead due to the extent of her condition. Meanwhile, 39-year-old Joshua James Gay was in moderate condition.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the incident. More details about the fatal head-on collision on Bowman Road will be provided as they become available.
