A kung-fu double feature at the New Beverly at 7:30 p.m.: The Avenging Eagle and A Fist Full of Talons, both on 35mm. Our beloved New Bev has been the subject of controversy lately, what with Quentin Tarantino taking over operations and longtime employee Julia Marchese’s recent resignation, but the programming slate still looks solid. Both films are directed by Sun Chung — supposedly the Kubrick of Hong Kong’s legendary Shaw Brothers Studio — and, for all the complaints leveled against Tarantino, his taste in martial-arts movies has rarely been called into question.
