Rick Araluce makes tiny diorama roomboxes. He's often compared to assemblage artist Joseph Cornell. At his most recent show at La Luz de Jesus Gallery here in Los Angeles, Araluce told me that he goes a little nuts making these pieces. (For more stories about Araluce, check out my piece in Candyland). They range in price from several hundred dollars to several thousand.

This one is called “The Revenge of Silence.”

Detail of “The Revenge of Silence.” Note the tiny shards of broken glass. Araluce wouldn't tell me if the blood is real blood.

This is “The Ultimate Journey.”

This is “The Peril of Eternity.” I almost bought this one. But I didn't have $2,600 to spare.

Here is “The Bad Plan,” on the right. Note the noose and broken stool.

This one's called “The Subtle Guest.” What does that shadow on the wall look like to you?
