Burn is an appropriately named thriller that patiently, smolderingly unfurls as a group of characters coalesce around a gas station during a graveyard shift. An emotionally unstable attendant (Tilda Cobham-Hervey), her socially confident co-worker (Suki Waterhouse) a desperate armed robber (Josh Hutcherson), a friendly cop (Harry Shum Jr.), and a shady young man (Shiloh Hernandez) also figure into the tightly constructed plot. Mike Gan wrote and directed on a shoestring budget. Arena Cinelounge, 6464 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood; Fri., Aug. 23, $16. (323) 924-1644, arenascreen.org.
