Northridge’s Flying Curves Dance Studio held its “Goddesses Empowered” show on Saturday, July 9, at Federal Bar in North Hollywood. The studio’s motto is “To dance is to be out of yourself. Larger, more beautiful, more powerful” and it encourages free expression by celebrating “women all shapes, sizes and stages of life.” Owner Christina (who dances as Veruca Sweet) and her partner and co-producer Jeff presented videos featuring the personal journeys of five nonprofessional dancers from all walks of life, who found “the best, most empowered version of themselves” through pole dancing and burlesque. The women then performed solo spots, based on their personal sexual fantasies. “There has been so much growth and transformation from the students taking these classes that I felt their inspiring stories needed to be told,” Christina said.
