Friday, June 21

With Anna, Luc Besson returns to the female assassin formula he pioneered almost three decades ago with Nikita. Sasha Luss, a slender Russian supermodel who played an alien princess in Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, undertakes the role of the title figure, a government-controlled killer with mad skills. She is suitably otherworldly for the part, although her CGI-augmented prowess as a martial artist takes realism out of the equation.

Also opening Friday, June 21: Better Than Love, Burn Your Maps, Child’s Play, The Command, The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir, Nightmare Cinema, The Quiet One, Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am, Toy Story 4, Wheeler Winston Dixon: From Ancient History to A Hundred Years from Today, Wild Rose
