Just because he's 92 (93 in less than two weeks, but who's counting?), doesn't mean the veteran actor can slack off. For the fifth year in a row, Kirk and his wife Anne (not exactly a spring chicken herself) will be donating their time by helping to dish up a Thanksgiving feast to the homeless at the Los Angeles Mission. Among the other famous faces expected at Wednesday's street festival are Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Police Chief Charlie Beck, Sheriff Lee Baca, actors Zoe Saldana, Carolyn Hennesy, Andrea Bowen, and around 20 others.

During the festivities, an estimated 3,000 turkey dinners will be provided, with a further 3,000 meals and food boxes being delivered to those who can't make it Downtown. While those numbers are around the same as for 2008's event, in the year ending October 31, some 580,000 meals were served at the Mission, a year-on-year rise of eight per cent. Here's hoping that next year we might actually see a decrease.

The volunteer roster for Wednesday is now full, but if you'd like to get involved with other events at the Mission, and/or donate food, clothing or money, go online to www.losangelesmission.org.
