Americans will be able to access free N95 grade masks as the White House has emphasized filtered masks over cloth.

President Joe Biden said 400 millions will be available as soon as next week at pharmacies and other health centers throughout the U.S.

The Biden administration has more than 700 million masks in its Strategic National Stockpile, with Americans being able to receive up to three masks.

L.A. County has encouraged the use of N95 or KN95 masks, requiring businesses to provide them for employees who work in indoor settings, for free.

Sinilarly, L.A. County schools have made a push for higher quality masks for students and teachers.

“Prioritizing and ensuring safety at schools during a surge is only possible if all those at the school commit to complying fully with public health measures; this cannot be accomplished by administrators or staff alone,” Public Health Director, Dr. Barbara Ferrer said. “Wearing a high- grade face mask both indoors and outdoors when around others is absolutely essential, as all evidence points to the effectiveness of well-fitting high-quality masks in limiting spread of virus.”

On Thursday, L.A. County recorded its highest number of single-day deaths since March 2021, with 102 deaths due to COVID-19.
