A man known as the “West Hollywood Cowboy” was arrested last week after Canadian officials said he was wanted for alleged manslaughter there. The man told sheriff's deputies who came to retrieve him from his favorite stool at the Gold Coast bar that he was in the United States illegally, reports WeHo News.

Don Leach, known for his signature cowboy hat, was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication, a sheriff's lieutenant told the News. (!!! Really? Deputies go into a bar, spot the man on a bar stool and take him for being drunk in public?).

Isn't “on a bar stool” exactly where drunk cowboys are supposed to be, legally speaking? Strange case, this one. Guy walks into a bar with a cowboy hat on and ends up being a potential fugitive?

Lt. David Smith says that ” … we got a call from a source that a man by the name of 'Cowboy' was wanted in connection with a serious crime in Canada and could be located in the Gold Coast, so we do as we always do, sent over deputies to talk with the man.”

A commanding sergeant with the sheriff's West Hollywood station confirmed the arrest, telling the Weekly that the case was in the hands of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
