Blogger Prom — what marketing genius came up with this one? Because of how much we rocked our actual prom, we couldn't say no. One of us was Prom Queen (Erin) and another one was Class President (Alexia) so we were psyched to relive high school, this time in high style at the Andaz Hotel in West Hollywood.
When one of us suddenly left the other dateless (long story) we used the magic of social media to garner the finest date Twitter could find — Jonathan Dingman — who at first was reticent to go on a date with a publication, but relented when he realized that this publication had legs, and girly ones at that.
Getting to go to prom with fellow content providers was a once in a lifetime opportunity. And everyone from FishbowlLA's Pandora Young and Tina Dupuy to LAist editor (and Prom King) Zach Behrens, organizer Caroline on Crack, Prom Queen (elect) Nadine Jolie, LA Metbloggers Travis Koplow, Lucinda Michele Knapp, Julia Frey, Jocelyn Wang (aka JozJozJoz), Mykal Burns, LAist's Andy Sternberg and Lisa Borodkin, Happy Go Marni, Lalawag's Laurie Percival, Sean Percival, A.V. Flox, Heather Vescent, Dana from Variety's 'The Knife,' Jessica Gelt and Elina Shatkin from L.A. Times' Daily Dish, Kat O'Dell from EaterLA and Zack from Lost Angeles made an appearance.
All was well until it came time to count the votes for Prom Queen. While our friends online tweeted in our favor @blogger_prom @laweekly #promqueen, somehow @LAWeekly's whopping 28 votes did not count towards the total and amidst Twitter protests we left the Andaz Hotel knowing who the true queens were, us. Because we were born to blog, natch.
