This is the big, romantic weekend.

Good luck.  Just remember not to drink too much with that overpriced, prix fixe meal, because getting pulled over and hauled into jail for drunk driving while your date sits there shotgun is not a good look.

Plus, the Auto Club of Southern California says “a first offense misdemeanor DUI conviction in California can cost approximately $15,649 or more in fines, penalties, restitution, legal fees and increased insurance costs,” which makes Valentine's dinner look like quite a bargain.

The Los Angeles Police Department and the L.A. Sheriff's Department are giving you fair warning about where they'll be, however. The idea is that if you know they'll be out there looking for drunk drivers, you'll think twice about having one too many before getting behind the wheel.

-Tonight an LAPD DUI checkpoint will be waiting for you from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Florence Avenue at Main Street in South Los Angeles.

-Tonight from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. the sheriff's department will be running a checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the city of Compton.

-Tonight from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. deputies will have a checkpoint awaiting your arrival at an undisclosed location in the city of Bellflower.

-Sunday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. extra police will be on the streets of North Hollywood looking for inebriated motorists. The LAPD calls this a “saturation patrol.”

Be safe.
