A 21-year-old motorcycle rider who attended USC was run over by a burgundy GMC Safari van from 1993 yesterday, just after the sun went down. After crashing into the bike at Vermont and Lexington near Los Feliz, the van took off down Lexington without looking back.

LAPD investigators are hot on the vehicle's trail — California license number 4MYH882 — and are asking the public to join the search.

The male victim, whose name has not been released, is currently in “critical condition” at a hospital near the crash scene, according to Central Traffic Division Detective Josephine Mapson. She says the college student has “numerous fractures,” including “fractured ribs, his right arm, his leg and left wrist.”

From the LAPD release:

The driver, who left the scene of the accident without identifying himself or rendering aid as required by law, is described as a 35- to 45-year-old Hispanic male about 5 feet 5 inches tall who weighs 170 to 190 pounds. He was last seen in his van heading westbound on Lexington Avenue.

Around the time of the 6:40 p.m. collision, one apparent witness Tweeted: “Hit and run felony Lexington and Vermont – Vehicle vs. motorcycle… vehicle took off. Totally UNCOOL.”

If you have any more information about the crime or have spotted the getaway van, you can call Detective Mapson at (213) 972-1840.
