Good news for Hostess snack fans: Twinkies are back in stores today. It's the first of the brand's snack cakes to make a comeback after an eight-month hiatus. Mini Muffins, Coffee Cakes, Ho Hos, Orange CupCakes, Suzy Qs, Zingers, Sno-Balls and Fruit Pies are all scheduled to return in coming months, from this August to the fall.

It seems that the makers of the twin cream-filled sponge cakes have capitalized on the absence. According to the New York Post, this time around Twinkies have doubled its shelf life, from 26 days to 45. Under the direction of private equity firms Apollo Global Management and Metropoulos & Co., the company will also be delivering frozen Twinkies upon retailer requests, giving the stores the leeway to mark the snacks with their own expiration dates.

Not everyone will be celebrating the new and longer-lasting Twinkie. CNN Money reports that only 20% to 25% of the former Hostess workforce — out of an estimated 18,500 — will return to the company.
