“L.A. proved too much for the man,” sang Gladys Knight, “So he's leavin' the life he's come to know, He said he's goin' back to find [Ooh, said the Pips] what's left of his world, The world he left behind, Not so long ago.” Well, “the man” was kind of a wuss, right? You don't have to take that midnight train to Georgia if you got the L.A. blues: the week is basically over (congrats, singletons: you survived Valentine's day!) so you should get out and enjoy the Top 5 Things to Do This Weekend.

This weekend there are some incredible shows–hip hop, garage, pop, and everything in between. Let's see what's up:

FRIDAY FEB. 18: THE REVIVAL SESSIONS w/ HANNI EL KHATIB + NICK WATERHOUSE + DJS JAMIE STRONG (STONE'S THROW) + JEREMY SOLE (KCRW)

All of these cats are amazing but Nick Waterhouse will pretty much blow your mind. He sounds like the best of early R&B with a heavy dose of Wild Records rockabilly. Hanni al Khatib is no slouch too, making garage rock with nothing but him, a guitar, and a drummer, and covering songs that range from jazz standards to Kelis. Seriously. And Stones Throw and KCRW DJs under the same roof? Go.

Where: Private Speakeasy at 52 Windward Ave

When: 9:00

FRI FEB. 18 HAR MAR SUPERSTAR + P.O.S. (AND MIKE MICTLAN OF DOOMTREE)+ MARIJUANA DEATH SQUAD + SKOAL KODIAK

Sean Mathew Tillman (a.k.a Har Mar Superstar) looks suspiciously like a young Ron Jeremy, which would be kind of disturbing if he didn't make such catchy music, mixing electro, R&B, and pop with ease as he bounces around on stage in his Y-fronts. He's opened for the Strokes, Tenacious D, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, toured with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and acted as a corporate spokesperson. Not bad for a guy who's main schtick is shaking a tailfeather to the beat of some extremely catchy tunes. There are so many good reasons to see him better catch him while you can!
