After plenty of controversy and a lot of teasing via chef Jason Neroni's Instagram account, it looks as though the Rose Cafe is ready to make its comeback. Neroni, along with restaurateur Bill Chait, will be holding friends-and-family meals early next week — one night for pizza and one night for pasta — and PR reps say the restaurant should be open for breakfast and lunch by the end of the week.

The Rose closed back in February after Chait entered into a partnership with owners Kamal Kapur and Manhar Patel, with the idea of updating the longtime artists hangout with a new look, new menu and Neroni as chef. Many people in the neighborhood were upset by the changes and worried for the workers, many of whom had been employed by the Rose for decades.

In the intervening months, Neroni and Chait also opened Catch and Release in Marina del Ray. But recently, at least according to his social media accounts, Neroni has been focusing on the Rose, posting beautiful pics of what we can expect on the menu. This week, the restaurant's reps sent media outlets boxes of pastries as a taste of what to expect from the bakery component of the restaurant, and while this writer did not sample the goodies, a co-worker who did was enthusiastic.

It sounds as though the Rose will open first for breakfast and lunch, with dinner to come shortly thereafter. Interested in keeping up to date? Follow @therosevenice.
