In 1931, Giuseppe Cipriani opened Harry’s Bar on the first floor of an abandoned rope warehouse off a dead end in Piazza San Marco, Venice, and has since become an international culinary landmark and home to a historic clientele from Ernest Hemingway and Orson Wells to Frank Lloyd Wright and Charlie Chaplin. It’s the home of the original Bellini and hasn’t changed since those pre-war years.

Since then, three generations of Cipriani family members — Arrigo, Giuseppe and his sons Ignazio and Maggio — have grown into an international hospitality brand, with restaurants, landmarked event spaces, residential, luxury hotels and private membership clubs around the world including Venice, Milan, New York, Miami, Mexico City, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong, Monte Carlo, Las Vegas, Istanbul and Bahrain.

On Wednesday, Jan. 10, Cipriani will open its first location in California.

Designed by Florentine architect Michele Bonan, who has collaborated with the family on other locations, Cipriani Beverly Hills will feature a  sleek nautical aesthetic with polished wood interiors punctuated by steel trim, brown leather chairs, Murano chandeliers, black-and-white fashion photography and deep green velvet accents.

The restaurant will have an old Hollywood-style jazz cafe designed by Carlos Almada, with zebra fabrics, arches, palm trees, and a grand piano, open to diners three nights a week and also available for rental as a private event space. In the spring, Cipriani Beverly Hills will open a patio for outdoor dining.

Menu highlights include classic Cipriani dishes like baked tagliolini with ham, calves liver alla Veneziana, carpaccio alla Cipriani, vanilla meringue cake and, of course, those world-famous bellinis. Cipriani Beverly Hills is located at 362 N. Camden Drive in Beverly Hills and will be open for lunch and dinner seven days a week – Sunday to Thursday 11:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. The jazz cafe will be open on Thursday 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday  5:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
