Readers of Christine Pelisek's ongoing coverage of the Billboard Wars know how difficult it is for communities of ordinary citizens to overcome the awesome economic firepower possessed by billboard companies — companies that can seemingly turn around the votes of City Council Members with the tug of a string. Putting things somewhat in perspective, Culver City's Koplin del Rio Gallery offers Memory of the L.A. Billboard: Telepolis in the Archetype, a group exhibition capturing the blight, unintentional humor and, yes, occasional beauty of billboards. The show runs through July 3 and is well worth a look.
