If you love Sriracha and are deeply worried about its supply chain – and are maybe the kind of person who spent New Year's Eve of 1999 in a Montana bunker – you have someplace to be at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22. No, not at the Rosemead plant for a sit-in or to duct tape yourself to the doors, but in the possibly unlikely place of ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen, otherwise known as Chipotle's Asian fusion restaurant. Well, at one of their three locations, actually, where on the day in question, they'll be giving away bottles of the beloved hot sauce.
At 5 p.m. on Jan. 22 at the three ShopHouse locations around L.A., the first 100 people who order meals will also get a free 9-ounce bottle of Sriracha. All you have to do – well, other than get there, park, get a table and order your meal at 5 o'clock and not some other time – is say the magic words “Spice hoarder” to the person at the register. Right.
All this is because the folks at ShopHouse recognize how important Sriracha is to their cuisine – and to everybody else's cuisine too. All food. Everywhere.
“While the shortage may have left some people in a panic, we are happy to share our new-found stash,” said Tim Wildin, brand director for ShopHouse in a press release. No details were made public as to how the chain came by their “stash,” but whatever works. (Although, really, 9 ounces won't get you that far. All the bottles in my kitchen are 28 ounces. Just saying, ShopHouse.)
Supplies will be limited to 100 bottles of Sriracha per restaurant. One bottle per person; no cheating. There are three ShopHouse locations in the Los Angeles area: 6333 Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood; 1401 3rd Street Promenade, Santa Monica; and 1059 Broxton Avenue, Los Angeles. All restaurant locations are open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
