Emma CourtlandThis morning, beloved British stop motion animation duo, Wallace and Gromit, received their fifth Oscar nomination from the Motion Picture Academy. Though the pair have already won four Oscars for the animated short films A Grand Day Out (1989), The Wrong Trousers (1993), and A Close Shave (1995), as well as the best animated feature award for The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2006), this year, it's A Matter of Loaf and Death.
Since last we saw them, the ever-entrepreneurial Wallace and Gromit have been busy converting 62 West Wallaby Street into a fully mechanized bakery to accommodate their new business, Top Bun. With the help of new contraptions (robotic kneeding arms) the noted gourmands have been rising early, baking bread, and delivering “dough to door.” And it seems their efforts have paid off–business has been booming, and all the more so since that freak string of local baker disappearances. And, in a totally unrelated chain of freak events, Wallace has fallen in love with Piella Bakewell, the once thin and beautiful, now “dough-eyed” and dough-bellied, former Bake-O-Lite bread spokes model, who is certainly not a “cereal killer,” and all is on the up and up. Or so it would seem. (To Wallace anyway.)
