First, Santa Monica seafood restaurant I. Cugini announced it will close in June after over 20 years in business. Now, two of the oldest seafood companies in Los Angeles will become one.
72-year-old Santa Monica Seafood has bought its chief rival, acquiring the customer base, corporate name, inventory and other assets of 90-year-old Long Beach Seafood Co. As part of the deal, Tony and Star de Lucia of Long Beach Seafood, have joined Santa Monica Seafood and will focus on sales.
The combined customer base of the two companies makes it one of the largest seafood sales, customer service, purchasing and delivery businesses in Southern California. Based out of Rancho Dominguez, the company has two stores, one in Santa Monica and one in Costa Mesa. It also does heavy business in Las Vegas.
