75-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after a Deadly Collision on Mapleway Road

YAKIMA COUNTY, WA (March 12, 2024) – On Friday afternoon, police responded to a fatal crash that claimed the life of Ronald Young.

The incident occurred in the vicinity of US Highway 12 and Mapleway Road, near Gleed, around 12:40 p.m. on March 1st.

According to the Washington State Patrol, a Hyundai Tucson driven by 75-year-old Young was stationary at the intersection, while a Jeep Wrangler driven by 35-year-old Karina Sandoval was traveling westbound on US Highway 12.

Moreover, Young failed to yield the right-of-way and was struck by Sandoval, resulting in serious injuries to both drivers.

Subsequently, the responding paramedics transported both Sandoval and Young to Multicare Yakima Memorial Hospital.

Unfortunately, Young succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and he was pronounced dead. At this time, it was unknown if impairment played a role in the crash and further investigation is underway.
