Reanimating Death with Suffocation: Death, from Florida, are one of the pioneers of death metal. Active from 1983, the band ceased to be when main man Chuck Schuldiner died in 2001. Now though, a bunch of former band members have come together as Death to All, to pay tribute to their comrade. It’s a great bill too, with Suffocation and Nukem also performing.

New York band Suffocation would be worth going to see by themselves. Former frontman Frank Mullen was one of the first to introduce the low grunt vocals to death metal, rather that the “Cookie Monster” growl employed by the likes of Deicide and Morbid Angel. New singer Ricky Myers has continued the trend since 2019, although we’ve yet to hear it on record (the last album was 2017’s …Of the Dark Light).

Put Death to All and Suffocation together and we’re in for a good time.

Reanimating Death with Suffocation: The event takes place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8 at the Belasco.
