Three-Vehicle Crash in MacArthur Maze Left One Dead and Three Injured

OAKLAND, CA (March 20, 2024) – Early Tuesday morning, a fatal wrong-way crash on Interstate 580 led to the arrest of Patrick Sheckells and Andre Albert.

Around 4:20 a.m., police initiated a pursuit of a driver fleeing from a robbery on San Pablo Avenue.

The suspects then began driving in the wrong lane after merging onto westbound I-580 from westbound I-80.

The chase concluded when the fleeing vehicle heading eastbound collided with a BMW and a white van traveling west.

Emergency responders pronounced the sole driver of the BMW dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver of the white van and the two occupants inside the getaway vehicle sustained major injuries.

On Tuesday, the El Cerrito Police identified the two suspects as 34-year-old Patrick Sheckells of Oakland and 56-year-old Andre Alberty of San Francisco. The city officials are working with the CHP to pursue the charges.
