Most of the biggie boo-gie nights are next weekend, but this week sure has some wicked warm-ups. Here are three very different but equally terror-ific events to break in your costume, sample bewitching brews and have a bloody good time.

Great Pumpkin Festival: Full disclosure: We help out at this fundraiser every year (and DJ too) because our little monster attends this Silver Lake school. But Micheltorena Elementary’s annual event deserves props regardless for its wildly eclectic music lineups. This year, Mac Sabbath (a McDonald’s-themed Black Sabbath cover band) opens the show on the Los Globos–sponsored stage, followed by Boogaloo Assassins, The Chapin Sisters, the all-star house band from Good Times at Davey Wayne’s and many more.

KCRW’s Masquerade Costume Ball and Dance Party: Killer music curation and elaborate costumes make KCRW’s bash one of the best for your bucks every year. The lineup is devilishly dancier for 2014: Bonobo (DJ set), Tom Vek, Tokimonsta, Fool’s Gold and more. Expect performances from Lucent Dossier and Harlows Gold, and party production and vibes that are truly worth dressing up for.

Lucha VaVoom’s Night of the Vampire: The burlesque/wrestling spectacle takes on a spooky, toothy vibe for Halloween with sexy monsters, voracious vamps and even more masked mayhem than usual, including an appearance by Black Sabbitch, electroclash hellraiser Peaches’ all-girl Black Sabbath cover band.
