For those of you who barricaded yourselves indoors with Netflix because of this weekend's “storm watch,” let me just say — damn, you missed out on some amazing events. Here at the L.A. Weekly, we tossed our umbrellas in the back seat, took our chances with the drizzle and hit up everything from Rick Castro's NC-17 screening of his Plushies & Furries documentary to the Echoplex's Christmas Sweater Festival to the Cure's super intimate gig at the Troubadour. Jealous? Read on for more of what we did and who we saw:
That's right, L.A. Weekly was lucky enough to get in to the Troubadour on December 13 for the nearly three-hour Cure show, courtesy of MySpace Music. Read Randall Roberts' review, “The Cure Tear Up the Troubadour at Surprise MySpace Show,” and watch his video clips from the performance. Christmas Sweater Festival at the Echoplex
Nothing says the holidays like an ugly sweater party. The Echoplex threw its Christmas Sweater Festival on December 13 with bands the Pity Party, Happy Hollows, the Deadly Syndrome, Amnion and Castledoor. Legendary Dogtown Z-Boys and music photographer Glen E. Friedman celebrated the opening of his retrospective exhibit, Idealist Propaganda, at Subliminal Projects gallery on December 13. The event was packed and drew big names like hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, Shepard Fairy, director Brett Ratner, Zephyr's Jeff Ho and Rage Against the Machine/One Day as a Lion frontman Zach de la Rocha.
