A man was stabbed to death at a birthday party in South Los Angeles December 25. Police say that 25-year-old Elmer Rodriguez got involved in a verbal dispute with another partygoer in the 5400 block of Blackwelder Street at 1:45 am.

The suspect, who has been identified as 31-year-old Edgar Martinez, retrieved a knife and stabbed Rodriguez twice in the abdominal area. Police say a couple of children witnessed the fatal stabbing. Martinez was observed running into his apartment complex next door and barricaded himself inside. He was arrested by police without incident later that morning.
