Brooklyn crunk-punk freaks Ninjasonik play Spaceland on Thursday night, which almost undoubtedly means that, in the words of frontman Telli Gramz, “Somebody Gonna Get Pregnant.”
The group's mix of hard-partying beats and hyper-sexual irreverence makes for a wild and bawdy soup that brings to mind Kool Keith, Beastie Boys, 2 Live Crew and Digital Underground in turn.
In fact, Mr. Gramz often goes by the pseudonym “Bathroomsexxx,” which may be a direct reference to the more famous exploits of Humpty Hump.
Ninjasonik's debut LP, Art School Girls, dropped on April 20.
Far more surprising than that, ahem, loaded release date was the record's cast of guests, which includes Matt and Kim, Team Robespierre, and Vivian Girls, among others.
Here, BK producer Machinedrum, who also works under the name Neon Black, gives new life to a particularly gritty (and topically poignant) Ninjasonik original.
