A U.S. District court arraigned two men last week for selling guns and methamphetamine to undercover officers at a San Jose hot dog stand. After multiple drug and weapon transactions, the feds finally arrested 58-year-old Jose Gilberto Ortiz on Sept. 2. His partner in food-stand-crime is alleged to be 23-year-old Guillermo Gonzalez Castillo, who hails from Los Angeles.
Undercover agents began investigating the Foss Avenue hot dog stand back in April, spending thousands of dollars on many weapons, including an AK-47, a Smith & Wesson revolver, and a sawed-off shotgun. Other money went toward ammunition and drugs.
Ortiz didn't lead authorities to his alleged partner, Castillo, until July. Castillo, nicknamed “El Gallo” (the rooster), delivered some of the purchases in a baby carriage — a step up (or maybe a step down) from the hot dog stand.
