There have been dozens and dozens of DUI checkpoints and special patrol operations so far this holiday season.

But nothing will compare to the New Year's Eve invasion of police on the streets of Los Angeles County. This is the Big Dance. And because there are plenty of ways to get around tonight without getting behind the wheel, you have no excuse.

Here's what we know about the action tonight and tomorrow:

–Tonight the California Highway Patrol will be in “maximum enforcement period” mode, meaning all hands will be on deck and on the lookout for drunk drivers. This starts at 6:01 p.m., according to the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.

–Tonight multi-agency DUI patrols will be happening in El Segundo, Gardena, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Inglewood, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Redondo Beach, Torrance and in the area around El Camino College, the sheriff's department says.

–Tonight additional DUI patrols will be happening in Arcadia, Bellflower and Pomona, deputies said.

-We contacted the LAPD about its plans for the big city but a spokesman said those would not be revealed until a noon press conference today. We'll update you when we get the 411.

And on Wednesday (New Year's day), don't think you can get away with drunk driving just because the big night is over. Cops will still be on the lookout. Plus, the CHP's maximum enforcement period will continue with “all available officers” being deployed until midnight Wednesday, the sheriff's department says.
