47-Year-Old Driver Arrested after Pedestrian Collision near Moss Street

BAKERSFIELD, CA (September 19, 2023) – Early Sunday morning, Mao Ernesto Arias was arrested after a fatal pedestrian crash on Meacham Road.

Emergency services were dispatched to the location near Moss Street, at the 9500 block of Meacham Road around 2:38 a.m.

According to initial reports, the driver of a westbound vehicle collided with a pedestrian who was also walking in the same direction. Medical personnel arrived at the scene and transported the injured victim to a nearby hospital where they later succumbed to their injuries.

At this time, the identity of the victim has not been disclosed by authorities. Police later apprehended the driver for charges of driving under the influence (DUI) and gross vehicular manslaughter. Mao Ernesto Arias, aged 47, is now in custody with bail set at $120,000.
