31-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after 2-Car Accident near State Route 156

HOLLISTER, CA (October 3, 2023) – Sunday evening, a red-light crash occurred on San Felipe Road, involving Carlos Noe Vargas and resulting in the loss of one man’s life.

Around 10:15 p.m. on September 24th, authorities responded to calls just north of State Route 156.

According to investigators, the driver of a 2016 Honda Civic was traveling south, while Carlos Noe Vargas was driving a 2001 Kia Spectra westward. For reasons currently under investigation, the Honda driver proceeded through the intersection on a red light, while Vargas had the green light.

This led to a collision between the two vehicles, resulting in fatal injuries to the 31-year-old male Honda driver. Meanwhile, Vargas, who is 56 years old, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Initial investigations have not yet determined whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident. An ongoing investigation is actively underway to gather further information.
