Male Rider Fatally Struck in Motorcycle Collision near Interstate 5

OCEANSIDE, CA (August 11, 2023) – Late Sunday night, a man sustained fatal injuries in a motorcycle accident on State Route 78. Officers responded to the scene around 11:01 p.m., along the westbound lanes of SR-78, approaching the I-5 northbound transition ramp. Per reports, the rider of a 2012 Harley Davidson lost control on the ramp for reasons unknown. The motorcycle was then hit by a Mitsubishi Outlander, driven by a 69-year-old man from San Diego. Emergency personnel rushed the 29-year-old male motorcyclist to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. At this time, authorities have not yet released his identity. The Mitsubishi driver did not sustain any injuries. Following preliminary duties, the CHP did not suspect alcohol and drugs to be a factor in the collision.
