A man was arrested in Mid-Wilshire for allegedly stabbing his mother and dog with a samurai sword, Tuesday.

The Los Angeles Police Dept. said officers found suspect Eric Herrera, 23, the woman and dog on the 1200 block of Victoria Avenue at 11:20 p.m.

The man was allegedly holding the samurai sword in the middle of the street and began approaching the responding officers. When the suspect did not respond to verbal commands, police said they used less-lethal weapons and a taser to make the arrest.

The mother had multiple lacerations on her arm from the attack and was taken to a local hospital, reportedly in stable condition.

His arrest was for attempted murder and is being held on $100,000 bail.
