Early results in the Los Angeles mayoral primary, with about 6 percent of ballots counted show Wendy Greuel and Eric Garcetti neck and neck, with 33,435 for Garcetti and 33,119 for Greuel. Most of them presumed to be absentee ballots.

That puts them both at about 31 percent. Jan Perry is well back at about 19 percent, Kevin James at 14 percent and Emanuel Pleitez at 2.5 percent.

These early results may not be a bellwether of who wins the top two spots tonight, to face each other in the May 21 runoff. But Greuel and Garcetti were widely expected to face each other in May.

This item will be updated the moment new numbers of any importance come in.
