The award-winning Beachwood Brewing just released details on its plan to take over the brewing space of recently closed Beach City Brewing, a 2-year-old craft brewery in Huntington Beach, as part of a larger push to widen the distribution and production of its sought-after beers.

“We are getting ready to embark on a pretty large expansion,” Beachwood founder and co-owner Gabe Gordon said in a statement. “While the deal isn’t done yet, we recognize that many people have come to learn that we’ll be acquiring Beach City Brewing in Huntington Beach. Our hope, once the purchase of the assets and the transfer of the licenses takes place, is to increase our production capabilities over the next five years to upwards of 8,000 barrels.”

That's nearly four times what Beachwood produced last year.

Beachwood Brewing's main outlets currently include its original barbecue restaurant in Seal Beach, a flagship brewpub in downtown Long Beach and a sour beer shop called Beachwood Blendery, which opened last year. With the exception of its sour beers, all of Beachwood's brews are produced in its brewpub, which has long meant that demand for the brewery's beers has outpaced production — especially as Beachwood continually racks up awards at the Great American Beer Festival.

Most of Beachwood's beer is sold through its brewpub or released on a limited basis to a select number of beer retailers. With the planned expansion, though, Beachwood intends to bring many of its popular IPAs, Belgian ales, stouts and other beers to a wider audience.
