Chalk up another point for the Great Recession, if you please: Sheriff's detectives say a 21-year-old man found dead in his Baldwin Park apartment had simply starved to death.

Sheriff's homicide investigators were called to the 3100 block of Vineland Avenue in Baldwin Park about 9:52 a.m. Sunday to assist local police, who had been called to the location at 8 a.m. based on a death report. Sheriff's detectives found the man had been “severely malnourished,” according to a department statement.

“Detectives have learned the victim had several medical issues and was living at the location with his family as a dependent adult,” Deputy Lillian Peck stated. “At this time, no evidence of foul play has been detected.”

A coroner's official Monday identified the deceased as Ricky Escobedo, 21.

Your mom used to tell you to eat all your food because children are starving in China. Today, not so much. But adults are starving in … America.
