It was a cop's worse nightmare in Reseda this morning.

A pair of officers responding to a report of a man with a gun were met by a suspect who opened fire on the patrol car they were riding in.

One officer was injured, police told us. It wasn't clear if he caught a graze wound, shrapnel or something else, said Officer Norma Eisenman:

He was taken to a hospital and was already walking around, she said.

LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said this via Twitter today: “Officer will be okay. He is in good spirits. Please keep him in your thoughts as he recovers.”

The attack happened about 9:30 a.m. in the 7100 block of Yolanda Avenue, Officer Bruce Borihanh told us.

The suspect was armed with not only a weapon but also a dog officers described as a pit bull.

Police allege the suspect, a 49-year-old man who had yet to be identified, shot a man in the arm and leg before officers arrived, Borihanh said.

The suspect was eventually cornered and arrested without one cop opening fire, he said.
