Perhaps you, like us, have spent the past month staring forlornly at the empty husk of a building that for 53 years housed Junior's Deli — a reliable pit stop for lox and chicken soup that was never as good as Langer's or Brent's, but still several notches above Factor's — and wondered what would fill its place. In late January, it was announced that its replacement would be Lenny's Deli.

Today is the day when we can not only answer the nagging question “Where will Lenny's fit in the pecking order of Los Angeles delis?” but do it on a budget. Until Lenny's closes this evening at 11 p.m., all menu items — from staples like Lake Sturgeon platters to bagels with cream cheese to newfangled healthy options like tofu veggie scrambles — will be half off.

If you're in a hurry, like we were, you can also pay full price to-go for the still-titled Grammy sandwich (pastrami, coleslaw and Russian dressing on rye, only wetter than we remembered) and note that when it comes to the décor and the deli counter, and names of menu items, the difference between Junior's and Lenny's is a puzzle not yet solved.
