One Dead, One Hospitalized after Auto Accident near Elm Avenue

ORANGEVALE, CA (June 6, 2022) – Tuesday night, Joseph Mendoza was killed and one was injured in a two-car collision on Hazel Avenue.

The accident happened around 9:30 p.m., on Hazel Avenue near Elm and Central Avenue on May 31st.

The collision involved a Toyota van and another vehicle that ended up in a yard. A power pole belonging to the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) was also downed.

In addition, power lines went down across both traffic lanes, and motorists were driving over them. However, the events leading up to the incident remain unclear.

Due to the impact of the crash, paramedics declared one occupant dead at the scene. Authorities later identified the deceased victim as 26-year-old Mendoza.

Meanwhile, medics also took another person to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries.

At this time, authorities are still conducting an active investigation into the crash. Orangevale police ask those with further information to contact local authorities immediately.
