Man and Horse Fatally Struck in Pickup Vs. Horse Collision near South Sterling Road

BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 21, 2024)Jose Hernandez and his horse were killed late Saturday night in a pickup-truck collision on Alto Place near the 1300 block of South Sterling Road. The incident occurred at approximately 11:35 p.m.

According to reports, a man riding a horse was struck by the driver of a southbound pickup truck in the same lane. First responders found the injured man and his horse on the road.

Due to the severity of his injuries, medics pronounced the man, identified as 46-year-old Hernandez from Bakersfield, dead at the scene. The horse was also euthanized shortly afterward.

In the meantime, the driver of the pickup truck stayed at the scene and assisted with the investigation. Authorities have ruled out alcohol or drugs as factors in the collision.
