60-Year-Old Driver Dies after Being Rear-Ended by Reckless Vehicle

TUCSON, AZ (December 4, 2023) – On Friday evening, police were dispatched to a crash that claimed the life of Johnny Lucero.

The deadly incident occurred on November 24th in the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 involving a GMC Yukon, and two other vehicles.

Investigation showed that 21-year-old Jose Avelardo Garcia-Arredondo was traveling along the area when he crossed over to the westbound and struck a GMC Yukon from behind.

Unfortunately, the GMC driver, later identified as 60-year-old Johnny Lucero was pronounced dead at the scene.

Furthermore, a passenger of Lucero and a juvenile passenger of Garcia-Arredondo were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Consequently, the authorities arrested Garcia-Arredondo where he faces second-degree murder, manslaughter, reckless endangerment, and aggravated DUI charges.
