22-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Wrong-Way Accident in San Patricio County

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX (December 5, 2023) Joaquin Puente died Monday night in a wrong-way collision on Highway 188. Around 6:36 a.m., police responded to the San Patricio County.

As per reports, Puente, a 22-year-old, was driving a 2001 Buick Century in the eastbound lanes of the highway. The Buick inexplicably veered into oncoming lanes. In that area, the Buick collided with the front left side of a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500, which was being driven by 71-year-old Charles Rodriguez of Sinton.

Following the impact, the Buick spun before eventually coming to a stop on the eastbound lanes. Paramedics transported a passenger, 53-year-old Blanca Jones from North Carolina, to CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital-Shoreline in Corpus Christi due to the injuries sustained.

Puente was later pronounced deceased by medics due to the severity of the injuries.
