64-Year-Old Man Pronounced Dead after Bicycle Collision near Country Club Drive

PALM DESERT, CA (March 20, 2024) Jay Groth was killed Tuesday night, in a bicycle crash on Cook Street and Country Club Drive. Police officers responded to the scene around 7:31 p.m.

The driver of a vehicle struck a male bicyclist in the area for reasons currently under investigation. First responders found the rider unresponsive on the road with severe injuries. The victim was transported by paramedics to Desert Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office later identified the deceased man as 62-year-old Jay Groth of Indio.

Witnesses to the bicycle accident are urged to contact Deputy Sanchez at the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station on 760-836-1600. Further details will be provided as they become available.
