Jason Draizin Says the $19 Billion Flower Industry Is Stuck in the Past — Here’s How He Plans to Fix It

Just about every supermarket in America puts flowers right by the front door. That’s not an accident.

Flowers are one of retail’s most reliable impulse buys. The color catches your eye, the scent sets the mood, and before you know it, a bouquet you didn’t plan on buying ends up in your cart. The strategy helps move an estimated $19 billion a year across the U.S. floral market.

But according to MarijuanaDoctors.com founder Jason Draizin, the industry behind those bouquets hasn’t kept up with how people actually shop in 2026.

“Farm relationships, supply chains, and how flowers reach customers haven’t really changed,” Draizin said in a statement on Tuesday, March 10. “We can bring that entire system online and connect it directly to people’s homes.”

Draizin recently purchased Blooms USA, a wholesale floral company with more than 30 years of experience importing and distributing fresh-cut flowers to retailers nationwide. The company sources from a global network of growers and specializes in everything from novelty bouquets to seasonal crops like peonies, ranunculus, and anemones.

For the self-made entrepreneur, the opportunity goes beyond wholesale. “The flower market has always been B2B,” he explained. “I want to own it vertically, from the farm all the way to someone’s front door.”

Today, most flowers are sourced internationally, shipped to distributors, delivered to stores, and then left to chance — waiting for shoppers to walk past them at the right moment. Very little data connects what customers actually want with what ends up on the shelf. And getting those same flowers delivered to someone’s door often means going through an entirely separate service.

Draizin’s plan is to close that gap. Blooms USA is building out integrations with delivery platforms like Instacart so the same bouquets being stocked in stores can also be ordered online. The company is also working with Meta to track customer preferences and automate flower subscriptions around birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays.

“There’s a national holiday every single month in this country,” Draizin said. “Once we connect to your data, we can automate those reminders and subscriptions so you never miss one.”

On the content side, Blooms is developing YouTube tutorials and in-store hang tags designed to help shoppers actually get more out of what they buy. One focus is teaching people how to break apart a single bouquet and spread individual stems throughout their home instead of letting the whole thing sit in one vase until it wilts.

“We want to show people that you can add four roses and a peony or an orchid to a $25 supermarket bouquet and make it look like you paid $250,” Draizin said. “And the person you give it to knows you actually put the time in, which means more.”

It’s a strategy that mirrors what Draizin built in the cannabis space. His platform MarijuanaDoctors.com grew to over one million monthly visitors by connecting a fragmented industry to the people who needed it most. The site was eventuallyacquired by Veriheal in 2022. “I can choose the wars I fight because business is a lot like war,” he said. “And this one is worth fighting.”

Blooms USA currently operates out of Florida, with plans to expand into new markets as the operation scales.
