Few people can bring these multidimensional elements together like Jaegeun Park, the Korean-American photographer behind acclaimed exhibitions and high-profile fashion campaigns. Known for his unique visual voice and growing role as a judge in international competitions, Park is helping redefine what it means to tell stories through the lens.

Park’s work spans industries worldwide, from solo exhibitions to covering New York Fashion Week. His sharp eye and commitment to authenticity make him a leading figure in the global creative community. Drawing from years of creative work centered around storytelling, Park’s subsequent phase has seen him step into leadership roles in international photography.

From Artist to Judge: Shaped by Stories

In 2025, Park was invited to serve as a judge for two major photography competitions: the iPray International Photo & Video Contest and the 1st Haehomie Creative Photography Contest. Though the contests differed in scope and theme, both aligned with his artistic values: emotion, honesty, and the power of visual storytelling.

At the iPray contest, Park evaluated submissions from around the world that explored spirituality, faith in daily life, and moments of personal transformation. His judging criteria centered on artistic quality, emotional resonance, and thematic clarity. With a background in photojournalism at the 3rd Flying Training Wing Air Force Base, where he received the Secretary of Defense Award and the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel Prize, Park brought not only technical expertise but also a trained sensitivity to capturing deeply human and spiritual moments.

“What struck me most was how many of the entries came from everyday life,” Park shares. “There were no big sets or special effects—just simple, powerful moments. A pair of hands held in prayer. A grandmother is lighting a candle. Children playing under sunlight streaming through a window. Each image felt deeply personal, yet also completely universal.”

Judging, however, also presented ethical challenges. One submission stood out for its emotional impact, but arrived after the official deadline. Park says, “It was not easy to disqualify such emotionally resonant work. But as a judge, I knew my role also required fairness and consistency. I ultimately made the difficult decision to uphold the rules, and it reminded me that in creative spaces, integrity must walk hand-in-hand with inspiration.”

The second contest, the 1st Haehomie Creative Photography Contest, held personal significance. Created by a former colleague and fellow military photojournalist, the contest carried the theme “The Sea and Sky We Long For.” It invited artists to explore longing, peace, and emotion through landscapes, particularly those involving water and sky.

“Earlier this year, I held a solo exhibition titled Ordinary Beauty, which explored stillness, nostalgia, and the emotional texture of landscapes—often drawn from the sea and sky,” Park notes. “Around the same time, I was also awarded 3rd place in Photocrowd’s international ‘Landscapes’ contest, where my work was recognized for its subtle storytelling and emotional resonance.”

Park reviewed the Haehomie entries with attention to composition, originality, and emotional depth. “Some made me feel calm, others made me feel nostalgic, and a few even made me feel a little bit homesick for places I’ve never been. That’s the power of photography—it can make strangers feel something familiar.”

What These Contests Taught Him

Judging the two contests was not only an honor for Park—it also served as a moment of reflection. The experience reinforced his long-held belief that visual storytelling is one of the most powerful tools for human connection. Whether working behind the camera, editing a design, or producing a film, Park remains committed to telling stories that feel authentic—stories that bring people closer and help them see the world through a new lens.

“I care deeply about using my work to highlight voices and experiences that often go unheard,” he continues. “I believe that every person has a story worth telling, and that sometimes the quietest images say the most.”

“In the end, I didn’t just judge a contest—I listened. I learned from other artists. I felt their hopes, struggles, and dreams through their images. And I walked away with a renewed sense of purpose: to keep telling stories that matter, and to honor the beauty that exists all around us—even in the smallest, most ordinary moments.”

Recognized for Excellence and Impact 

Park’s artistic work continues to receive global recognition. In 2023, he was selected as an All-Access Photographer at New York Fashion Week. This year, he has been selected again for the same honor! His poetic landscape photography placed third in a global Photocrowd contest, noted for its layered light and emotional storytelling.

His short documentary Church for the Next Generation, which explores Korean-American faith, earned a nomination at the New Vision & Voice Film Festival for its visual sensitivity and cultural commentary. He was also recognized at the Music for Film & TV Showcase, where his use of sound and visual pacing underscored his multi-disciplinary talent.
