In a last hurrah of summer celebration, vegetarian food blogstronauts and cookbook authors the Hot Knives, a duo of of Evan George and Alex Brown, are taking over Tony's Darts Away beer bar in Burbank for an entire Sunday, namely this Sunday, Sept. 16.

It's part of a series called “Books & Brews,” which entails Tony's chef Randy St. Clair whipping up recipes from a local cookbook of choice. This time it's Salad Daze, a

vegetarian cookbook that features inventive creations like pumpkin beer muffins, heffeweizen banana bread, psychedelic rice, coconut mashed potatoes, fennel kraut, and celeriac waldorf salad. There will be complimentary appetizers, and larger dishes available for sale at the bar all day long. You can also snag a copy of Salad Daze, or the new Hot Knives farmers market bag.

Tony's will be serving up about a dozen dishes in all (some vegan, some veg, some not), including a vegan “Faux Gras” made from cashew, parsnip, sherry, and pink peppercorns. George and Brown also go as far to pair each dish with a musical selection, meaning your “Seven Layer Trip” dip should be scooped while bobbing to the Talking Heads “Pyscho Killer” or the Welsh Rarebit noshed with The Buzzcocks' “Why Can't I Touch It?”

This being a Tony Yanow establishment, there will of course be plenty of craft brews, and if come around the right time (6-9 p.m.) you might even be able to have the Hot Knives duo sign your cookbook, or challenge them to a game of billards. Winner buys a round of beer and kale salad?
